Mario Kart DS (Japanese: マリオカートDS Hepburn: Mario Kāto Dī Esu) is a go-kart racing game developed and published by Nintendo. It had been released for its Nintendo DS handheld game console on November 14, 2005 in North America, on November 17, 2005 at Australia, on November 25, 2005 at Europe, on December 8, 2005 at Japan, and on April 5, 2007 in South Korea. The game is the fifth installment in the Mario Kart series of video games, and the first to become playable through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection online service; the ceremony has since been resumed, together with different games playable through the service. As with other games in the series, Mario Kart DSfeatures characters in the Mario series, and pits them against each other as they race into karts on paths based on places from the Mario series.
The game was well received, getting an abysmal rating of 91 percent from Metacritic. Praise concentrated on the game’s graphics and gameplay, whilst criticism targeted at its repetitive single-player style. Mario Kart DS received several awards, such as Editors’ Choice Awards from GameSpot and IGN, G-Phoria’s Best Handheld Game award, and IGN’s Best Racing/Driving Game. Mario Kart DS is a racing game in which the player races in a kart against other racers as one of eight characters, each with three karts to choose from. While fighting or racing, the Nintendo DS’s top screen delivers a third-person perspective of the player’s kart, while the bottom touchscreen shows that the race’s current standings, things carried by each racer, and a map of this program. The base screen can be toggled to show either an overview of the whole class, or a bird’s-eye perspective of the participant’s kart and the immediate vicinity, such as neighboring racers, course hazards, object boxes, along with incoming strikes. Each course features item boxes that the participant can push to get a randomly chosen item, which the player can utilize to gain an advantage over other racers. Some things enable the player to attack other racers to slow them down, even although other objects may be employed to speed up the participant’s own kart to pass other racers more readily.
The game comprises five single-player game modes: Grand Prix, Time Trial, Versus, Battle, and Mission. The Grand Prix and Vs modes demand that the player choose an engine course from one of 50 cc, 100 cc, and 150 cc. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, which comprised four cups, Mario Kart DS comprises eight cups: Mushroom, Flower, Star, Special, Shell, Banana, Leaf and Lightning, with the latter 4 cups consisting entirely of tracks derived from previous entries in the Mario Kart series. Each cup has four monitors, for a total of 32. When a cup is finished, a rating will be awarded dependent on the times and locations, which range from E to A, then to 1, two or three stars. Like in Double Dash, players receive points for every finishing position.
In Time Trial mode, the participant should finish a class as fast as you can by utilizing 1, 2 or 3 mushrooms (depending on which kart is employed ). The fastest time is then stored as a ghost, even a copy of the player’s functionality, which the participant can race against later.
In V.S. manner, the player races onto a track of the choosing against computer-controlled competitions or at local multiplayer. The mode can be played individually or in teams, which divides racers into a blue team and a red team; at multiplayer, players can command which team they are placed on. Moreover, the amount of races scoring system can also be altered.
Battle mode features two game modes, Balloon Battle and Shine Runners, both that also allow the player to perform either individually or in groups.
In Balloon Battle, the participant must pop the balloons of those players by assaulting themor they may steal balloons by boosting into other karts. Each player starts the conflict 1 balloon. These may be re-inflated up to 4 times. In multiplayer, even if a human player loses most of his/her balloons, he’s from this game and turns into a ghost. As a ghost, a participant can only place product boxes. If the battle is played single playerthen the match ends and the results are announced when all the human player’s balloons are popped.
